There is no single correct amount. First protect accommodation, transport, food and the journey back to the airport, then divide what remains for shopping.

A suitcase must meet the weight limit, not only close

Boxed sweets
Use a flat area, keep heavy items off the top and fill gaps with clothing.
Alcohol and glass
Check caps, bag and wrap each bottle, then cushion it in the centre away from hard objects.
Cosmetics and liquids
Group them in leak-resistant bags. For carry-on, check container and clear-bag limits.
Passport, cash and valuables
Keep them with you, not in checked baggage, and split backup cards or cash.
Battery-powered products
Power banks and some batteries cannot be checked. Follow current airline rules.
Food and plant products
Allowed out of Japan does not mean allowed into your destination. Check meat, plant and fruit controls.
